Tonight is the first Angler’s Night at the Boatyard. What’s that you ask......if you’re an avid local angler it’s a big deal. It’s cold out and cabin fever has set in bad. “I shot a hole in my freezer."—J Buffett. So 40 or 50 come to the B Y at 6pm for $3.00 drinks, $5.00 apps and buck-a-shuck oysters and talk fishing. It’s also become an unofficial meeting of the local Coastal Conservation Association membership. They and some of our friends from the Dept. of Natural Resources and the Ches. Bay Foundation talk sustainability and the health of the local fishery and what we can do to make it better. We also show a great flick—there is a lot of good fishing media out there. Tonight’s is “Bluefin on the Line.” Our next Anglers Nights are Tues, Feb 24 and Tues, Mar 31.
This Thurs is our annual "We're Not in Key West" Party for those sailors who are not at Key West Race Week. We have a band, drink specials and photos taken this week on the Race Course. Also we give prizes for those wearing flip flops. Well not “we” since "we" are flying down to Key West tomorrow afternoon to hang with the sailors at Kelly’s and right down the street at our dear friend Scott Kirby’s bar, Smoking Tuna. He will be singing the next two nights starting at 5:30 pm. Of course followed by dinner at Louie’s Back Porch.
When will the fun stop you ask? Next week on Wed, Jan 28 is Cuban Night. Our friends at t2p.tv (they film and narrate Wed Night Sailing Races and many major regattas) sailed to Cuba (1,000 miles) last year and photographed their journey. We will show Part 1 next week and then do a Part 2 in Feb or March. Executive Chef George will be serving an amazing authentic Cuban menu and Head Bartender Kevin will be serving some special Cuban cocktails. BTW we had this scheduled before the President’s announcement.
Then Thurs, Feb 12 we will celebrate our good friend Terry Hutchinson’s second Rolex Yachtsman of the Year award. A huge deal!!! Our great pal Dave Gendell will emcee. Come raise a drink to Terry and dance to the The Shatners - a rocking band.
I’ll stop there but just mention that March will have the Full Moon party on Thurs, Mar 5, Eastport Night with Those Eastport Oyster Boys on Wed, Mar 11 and Maguire’s Irish Pub on St Paddies Day. Then its Spring and time for our Fourteenth Annual Opening Day Rockfish Tournament and Party on Sat, Apr 18.
On a not so fun note, we close Sun eve Feb 1 for maintenance and cleaning and we reopen on Fri, Feb 6 at 11 am. It’s all hands on deck to make the B Y shine.
Four winter looks off Eastport - Canadian Geese off my dock - cassoulet anyone? Photos of a cold winter sunrise and low tide, a beautiful winter sunrise and my favorite called “everything grey.” Lastly a photo of The Oyster Boys leading the Conga Line through the Boatyard during the The Maritime Republic of Eastport (MRE) Tug of War celebration recently where they awarded the proceeds to this year’s charitable recipients.
All for now, hope to see you at some of these events. Up the Republic!! (“MRE signoff”)
